David D. Engle was born in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. He attended The Pennsylvania State University (B.A., Political Science with high distinction, 1986) (Phi Beta Kappa). He received his legal education at the University of North Carolina (J.D., 1989) and was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1989. David moved to State College and began practicing law with Robert Mitinger at Mitinger & Engle in 1991, emphasizing Personal Injury Litigation, Civil Litigation, Municipal Law, Real Estate Closings, and District Justice Hearings.

In 1999, he joined the law firm of Masorti, Sullivan & Engle, P.C. as a founding shareholder. He practiced there until May 2004, emphasizing Personal Injury Litigation, Civil Litigation, Municipal Law, and Real Estate Closings. He and his wife Jill Engle opened the firm Engle & Engle in May, 2004 where he had the same areas of practice. Rose Kauffman joined the firm in 2013 and it became known as Engle Kauffman. In January of 2025, he joined Centre County’s oldest law firm–Miller, Kistler & Campbell.

He is the Solicitor for the Spring Township Zoning Hearing Board. Mr. Engle has served on the Board of Directors of the State College Area Jaycees and is presently on the Board of Directors of, and President of, Back the Lions. David is the grandson of Coach Rip Engle and enjoys Penn State football, although he also follows Penn State basketball. He also roots for his law school team (the UNC Tar Heels) in basketball. He enjoys playing tennis and golf.
