John R. Miller, Jr.
(August 17, 1919 - June 2, 2007)

In Memory of John Miller Jr.

During his long and fruitful legal career, John R. Miller, Jr. served as district attorney of Centre County, president of the Centre County Bar Association, and, among many other honors and awards, received the Distinguished Lifetime Achievement in School Law Awqard from the Pennsylvania School Boards Association. He held numerous solicitorships for various public bodies, having been recognized in 2004 by the State College Area School District for 50 years of service as its district solicitor.

He was well and widely known as a trial advocate, appearing in non-jury and jury trials throughout the central portion of the state. His voice and name were recognized in country courtrooms from Harrisburg to Greensburg and from the New York to Maryland borders. It was his great genius to be able to take a fact situation and identify the circumstance contained therein that would move the jury in his direction. His respect for all mankind, whether judge, lawyer, juror, or witness, enabled him to establish a common ground with all concerned in the process. That, coupled with a clear and definite process of thought, allowed him to formulate arguments with equal facility for judge or jury. His success in those endeavors established a remarkable record.

He was for all of us the consummate country lawyer.
